Work Towards the Future

Now that the vote is over, let's work towards the future. There are to many minor squabbles that are going on right now, and they need to end. You have all selected a team that is committed to giving you the best collective agreement that we can get. We can not reach that goal if our forces are divided. Unity is the key to success here. We have all heard of the tough economic times that the world is facing. Companies are down sizing and layoffs are on the rise in every employment sector, this one is no different.
This team, that you the members, have put together is a strong one, however it will not succeed in its mission, until it has the undivided support of every member of this department.

Thanks for the Votes

I want  to extend to everyone a heart felt thank you to everyone who cam out and voted for our bargaining team.  So on behalf of the whole team I say thanks. Now that this stage is over, the next one is about to begin. In this stage you the members have a big role to play. We as a bargaining team are just the voice you the member are the spirit and soul of what we are, and what we are is a team.  We are a collection of people that have been thrown together from all different walks of life to create a single unit. In order to survive this unit needs to depend on all of its different pieces to preserve the whole.

The first thing that you as members my want to consider first is what does your family need first, because they are the base of a solid foundation. After all they are what we are all in this for.  All through out history the one thing on common that all nations have fought for is the safety and well being of their children, wives, family's and homes.

You will read an bulletin boards around our place of employment  that they have never laid off anyone, I would hazard a guess that the 40 plus sups they let go in one day would beg to differ.  They all had family homes and children.

So lets get on track and think about what it is that we al want to see changed or fixed up in our next collective agreement. Please let us on the Bargaining team know if you have any Ideas and we will have a look at them.

Principles of Leadership

The main response ability for every leader should be to create more leaders, not more followers. Leaders should encourage the follower to take on tasks that have a steadily increasing level of difficulty. At no time should the needs of the leader outstrip the needs of his subordinates and it is the true leader that realizes he works for his men not the other way around. Leaders should be the voice of confidence and calm, and display rational decision making abilities in the most extreme of conditions. Knowing what your physical and mental limitations are will go a long way  in fostering respect and loyalty from your boss as well as your subordinates.

Leadership Principles

  1. Know yourself and seek self-improvement
  2. Be technically and tactically proficient
  3. Know your staff and look out for their welfare
  4. Keep your Staff informed
  5. Set the example
  6. Ensure the task is understood, supervised, and accomplished
  7. Train your staff as a team
  8. Make sound and timely decisions
  9. Develop a sense of responsibility among your subordinates.
  10. Employ your command in accordance with its capabilities
  11. Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions

We will retreat no further !!

OK guys here it is the first post in my Local 278 blog, Iam writing this blog in an attempt to get some communication going here between officers. The biggest problem we have always had in our executive and our union as a whole is the inability to communicate and pass on information. I
hope this bog and my face book page will fix this.

The first thing I would like to say is that the local is only as strong as the membership and we cant do anything without the membership. Second do not confuse this blog with support for OPSEU. I have made my view on them very clear and this forum is not the appropriate place for that discussion.

On another note, we must move forward and upward. The next few months are going to be difficult ones and we all need to think about how we are going to handle the things that come our way. We need to have a positive attitude and we need to begin the advance, we will retreat no further.
